APHORISM 5:
Useful to the physician in assisting him to cure are the particulars of the most probable exciting cause of the acute disease, as also the most significant points in the whole history of the chronic disease, to enable him to discover its fundamental cause, which is generally due to a chronic miasm. In these investigations, the ascertainable physical constitution of the patient (especially when the disease is chronic), his moral and intellectual character, his occupation, mode of living and habits, his social and domestic relations, his age, sexual function, etc., are to be taken into consideration.

Now, He turns towards the Knowledge about Disease & He starts explaining about the Causes of the Diseases. He at first explains regarding the Exciting Cause of the Acute Disease.
Exciting Cause means the things which excites the disease are called to the Exciting Causes. They are of any type as Biological, Physical, Chemical, Psychological etc. which are necessary to understand for finding out the Causative Modality for the Prescription.
Then He explains regarding the Cause of the Chronic Diseases i.e. Chronic Miasms to which He labels by Fundamental Cause. In order to investigate this Fundamental Cause, what is the necessary requirement for the Homoeopathic Physician, He explain in details. He says that when the disease is chronic, the following points gives you the understanding regarding the Sick.
1. The ascertainable physical constitution: Which guides you to understand few aspects about the individuality regarding the Patient for prescription point of view.
2. Moral & Intellectual Character: Moral character gives you the Nature of an Individual & Intellectual character explains the level of understanding of the patient. Both of them are necessary to individualize the Patient.
3. Occupation: Which guides to understand regarding the Occupational diseases or hazards along with patients aspect looking towards the Occupation i.e. whether he likes it or not? Whether he does it with his need, liking, for earning etc.
4. Mode of Living & Habits: This gives you an idea regarding his socio-economical status, his position & nature. Habits gives you ideas regarding the Causa Occaionalis i.e. Maintaining Causes & it is Physicians sole duty to remove them from the Patient.
5. Social & Domestic Relations: Social relations gives us the hint regarding the nature of the patient whether he likes company or desires solitude, whether he has any leader qualities or yielding one etc., his position in the society. Dynamic Causes of the number of Chronic Diseases are hidden in his Domestic Relations. The disputes, quarrels are quiet common in the families which creates the turmoil at the psychological level & ultimately creates the disorder.
6. Age: Which gives you an idea regarding number of things as Diseases in different age groups, whether his age matches his development or not etc.
7. Sexual Function: Last but not the least one because especially in India where this aspect is considered as something special & one should not talk or discuss on such matters, the problems at this level remains hidden due to shame ill the disease get advanced. One should not overlook this matter in the investigation of the chronic diseases.
